3rd Party Publishers 

Publishers or other organizations who provide information into the Vable platform, either via Vable Inbox, website pages or RSS feeds. This includes free or subscription based services. Access to the latter for Vable customers is dependent on having relevant licenses and permissions with the publisher. 

API or  “application programming interface” 

External applications which contribute to the content or functionality of Vable. For example, full text feeds from 3rd Party Publishers, or IBM Watson keywords.

Account Library 

This is a custom search Filter which includes all the Sources that you have assigned to it. As your sources are added to the platform they will automatically be added to your Account Library; some sources will already exist on Vable so will need to be added manually.

Account Manager 

To help you get the most out of your Vable subscription, we assign to you a named Vable contact with whom you can have regular Touchpoints and training (license dependent).

Account Settings 

Only accessible to Global Administrators, these include default Newsletter settings, the Label Manager, Taxonomy Manager, Search Filters and User Settings which are applied to, and affect, the entire platform.

Administrator, Global 

These users have full management rights over all aspects of the Vable platform so it is recommended that you limit this to an individual or small group. They can create other Global Administrators, make ‘global’ changes to platform-wide Account Settings and manage all Topics and Newsletters, regardless of applied permissions.

Administrator, Standard 

These users can run searches, manage End-Users, create and amend Newsletters (unless they are locked down to other users), add content, set up Vable Inbox rules (where available), and run statistical analysis Reports. They can make use of the available search Filters and Taxonomy, both those custom to their organization’s platform and those managed by Vable.

Archive 

As Newsletters are published, you can access each edition from the archive via the Newsletter Details Page. From here you can resend or view individual statistics for a particular Newsletter.

Alert Topic 

A saved Search or collection of Searches which are associated with just one particular newsletter. These are not available for End-Users to follow or use in Personal Newsletters. They can be converted into a General Topic if required.

Boolean Searching 

Vable allows all Administrators to construct Articles Searches using Boolean logic. For example, AND, OR, AND NOT,  *, “”, () and “”~n are all accepted.

Cloned Topic 

This action saves time when you want to recreate a Topic where you are making only minor changes to the Search(es).

Configure/Configuration 

This functionality applies to both Topics and Newsletter. When an empty topic or Newsletter Shell has been created, add content to it by clicking on the Configure button. From the pop-up, you can add, edit, and delete content as required. 

Curated Feed 

Individually select articles from Sources to include in your Topics and Newsletters. You can locate existing Curated Feeds on the Sources page using the Types filter and selecting "Curated Feeds". We suggest using Curated Feeds when you want 100% control over the content you make available to your users.

Curated Newsletters 

These enable you to control exactly what End-Users receive. Administrators can review, edit and/or exclude articles, or add other useful information before publishing. These are excellent for precision client- or industry-news where results need to be checked and/or formatted.

Dashboard 

This is the page you land on when you log into Vable as an Administrator. This page not only gives you the options to navigate anywhere on the platform, but it gives you an immediate overview of your Newsletters and Topic statistics. Where applicable it will also tell you if there are any issues with any Vable Inbox rules

Detail Page 

When you click on a Topic or Newsletter it gives you a number of options to Configure, add subscribers, curate it (if applicable), change the delivery times etc. But you have the option to view more details. From here you can change the type (Automated Newsletter or Curated Newsletter), see who the administrators are, whether it is restricted, the RSS feed addresses etc. 

End-Users 

These users can log in to the Vable platform and can choose to follow General Topics, subscribe to administrator-managed Newsletters, and manage and create their own Personal Newsletters from a list of General Topics. They can view and search through articles published in the Topics and Newsletters to which they are subscribed.

Exact match search 

This search feature on the Articles page requires the results to match the capitalization included in the search query.

Filters 

An efficient and sophisticated way of creating focused searches. Some filters such as Language, Company or Industries are created by Vable using the IBM Watson API. Others are created by Global Administrators, for instance, Labels, Taxonomy, and bespoke Publisher Filters or Search Filters.

General Topic 

A saved Search or collection of searches which form the basis of Newsletters. These are available for other Administrators or End-Users to follow or use in Personal Newsletters.

Global Administrator 

These users have full management rights over all aspects of the Vable platform. It is recommended that Global Administrator are limited to an individual or a small group of key people. IBM Watson 

Sophisticated data processing application (api) which scans all incoming data and extracts keywords. Only keywords with 70%+ accuracy are retained by Vable.

Inbox Rules 

When a new email is subscribed to your Vablemail address, rules are needed to make sure the email is processed correctly. Just like other email clients, such as Outlook, Vable Inbox Rules will group emails together and tell the system how they should be handled.

Industries 

A Vable filter using IBM Watson keywording. By adding or excluding industry filters you can refine and focus your search with one click.

Keywords 

These are created and applied to articles by the IBM Watson api. Only those which have 70%+ accuracy are included. They populate Vable filters, and you can add or exclude keywords in all your searches. 

Label/Label Manager 

A Filter created by Global Administrator(s) designed to help organize your information. Apply Labels to Newsletters, Inbox Rules, Topics, and Sources for efficient sorting and searching.

List View 

When you go into a tab, all Newsletters, Topics, Articles, etc are presented as a list. In the case of articles these can be expanded to see the Keywords or Taxonomy terms attached to them. Depending on the tab, using the 3 dot icon, there is various functionality from the list view. 

Organization Unit / Organization Structure 

With the appropriate Vable subscription, it is possible for Global Administrators to create groups of End-Users which reflect the individual organization’s structure. These become available as units and can be applied to Newsletters ensuring that entire departments, sector groups, etc are subscribed with just one click.

Newsletter 

These enable End-Users to receive relevant current awareness updates or need-to-know information straight into their inbox. 

Newsletters, Automated 

After initial set up, these are published to End-Users with no intervention from Administrators.  

Newsletters, Curated 

These enable you to control exactly what End-Users receive. Administrators can review, edit and/or exclude articles, or add other useful information before publishing. These are excellent for precision client- or industry-news where results need to be checked and/or formatted. 

Newsletters, Personal 

Personal Newsletters are created by End-Users by subscribing to General Topics created by Administrators.

Preview 

Allows Administrators to view and proofread a Newsletter before it is published. 

Publisher Filter 

This is a Select Filter. Although you can expand and select publishers from the dropdown list, if you click on it, a dialogue window will open. From here you can search for and select/exclude any number of publishers to your search. 

Publisher location 

A Vable Filter which refines searches by the location of the publisher. Note that information is taken from the Source metadata, and some publishers are classed as ‘international’ if they aren’t limited to a single or predominant location.

RSS feeds 

These are a type of web feed which allows Vable to access updates to online content in a standardized, computer-readable format.

Reports 

Vable has incorporated many ways to produce and manage statistics about your current awareness. The Dashboard offers an at-a-glance overview, or you can access specific Newsletter analytics from a Newsletter’s details page. Exportable data on all clicks, emails opened, sources accessed, individual usage etc. are available from the Reports page.

Select Filters 

When creating searches you have the options of adding or excluding certain filters. You can click on the expand arrow to instantly see items within, however, filters in teal are different from the ones in dark grey. If you click on Select Publishers, Select Sources, Select Email Rules, or Select Companies, a dialogue window will open. You can scroll through them to add, or you can run a search for a publisher, source, company etc.

Shell 

A empty Newsletter or Topic which has a title but is awaiting full content Configuration, and activation.

Source 

A Vable Source is any individual web page URL or RSS feed, or tracked within the platform. A source can also be a Curated Feed, comprised of articles handpicked by Administrators. Administrators have the ability to mark a Source private to their own organization when adding it to the platform.

Standard Administrator

Subjects

Taxonomy/Taxonomy Manager 

Where applicable, Global Administrators can create an organizational-wide taxonomy specific to industry requirements. You can group your Sources under taxonomy terms, such as industry groups, practice areas and any other bespoke designations. As you add the taxonomy to sources, they will then be applied to articles within that source.

Test Publish 

When a Newsletter is created, you have an option to see what your End-Users will see by publishing it just to yourself first.

Topic, Alert 

A saved Search or collection of Searches which are associated with just one particular newsletter. These are not available for End-Users to follow or use in Personal Newsletters. They can be converted into a General Topic if required.

Topic, General 

A saved Search or collection of searches which form the basis of Newsletters. These are available for other Administrators or End-Users to follow or use in Personal Newsletters.

Touchpoint 

Regular meetings or touchpoints between you and your Account Manager ensuring that you are fully supported and making the most out of the Vable platform.

Vable Inbox 

A Vable product. It is an email platform for managing and redirecting all incoming 3rd Party Publishers material, newsletters, alerts and e-journals within your organization. Information in emails can also be extracted and fed into the platform as a Source and added to searches as required.

Vablemail 

An integral part of the Vable Inbox product. Your organization will be given an email address from where you can manage all email subscriptions from both 3rd Party Publishers, and also from within your organization. Information in emails can also be extracted and fed into the platform as a Source and added to Searches or Newsletters as required.
