Measurable ROI on services that your information department offers is important, so Vable Reports are an essential part of the platform’s functionality. Business services must be measurable for management evaluation. Previously it was a challenge to get quantifiable data, but Vable enables you to provide figures in your monthly/quarterly reports to the management board.

Vable has incorporated many ways to produce and manage statistics about your current awareness. The Dashboard offers an at-a-glance overview, or you can access specific Newsletter analytics from the Newsletters page. Downloadable and detailed data on all clicks, emails opened, sources accessed, individual usage etc are available from the Reports page.

There are other benefits as well. For instance, if you identify keen users you can create case studies, and replicate that success in other areas. It also offers the advantage of consistent reporting over different sources so you can see which is preferred. When renewing expensive resources you have measurable, comparable usage statistics. Vable Inbox will also enable you to monitor whether recipients are opening emails.

Accessing the Dashboard

When you log into Vable, the landing page defaults to the Dashboard with its statistical overview. A time period of one week is selected automatically but you can click to change this to 1 day, 1 month or 1 year. The figures will update and you can click on active links for more details.

Note: The Dashboard figures are taken from the past 7 days, regardless of which day you are on. However under the Reports tab, a week's worth of data always begins on a Monday - this may account for differences in figures.

Email Delivery Statistics

Email Delivery Statistics tell you how many clicks your emails have had, how many have been sent, and/or opened. It will also alert you to errors and unsubscribes.

If you click on an active square it will take you to the relevant statistics contained under the Reports tab. For instance, if you select Newsletters clicked over the past week, it will take you straight to that Report.

Incoming Email Statistics

Underneath the Email Delivery Statistics you have the Incoming Email Statistics. If you have a subscription to Vable Inbox this is where you will be notified about received, successful and failed emails.

Statistics on Newsletters and Topics

Information and statistics on Top Newsletters, Top Topics, and Recent Newsletters and Topics can be found further down the page. There are graphics which you can add to your reports as desired. As you hover over them, more information is displayed.

Accessing Reports

Although you can access Reports via the Dashboard, across the top of the screen, you will find the dedicated Reports tab. This is where you can access Vable’s sophisticated reporting options. Depending on which Report view you are in, the Type drop-down boxes will change.

In the Newsletters view, it will have options to filter by Standard, Personal or Manual Newsletters. These refer to the automated, personal, and curated newsletters. If you’re looking at Topics Reports, you can filter by General or Alert Topics. Finally Sources gives you the options to sort by RSS Feed, Web Page or Abstract.

Newsletters over a Month

This example shows statistics for clicks on Newsletters over the past month. If you wish to see further details, click on the numbers to the right - if you click on the title of the newsletter it will take you to the detail view of that newsletter and out of the Reports view.

The next view shows who has clicked on links in the newsletter. You can choose to see data over the week, month, year or all time. This is where you will see various drop-down options. The types mentioned above, or the changes to weeks or years as you click through the options.

Note: Under the Reports tab, a week's worth of data always begins on a Monday. This differs from the Dashboard which collects data from the past 7 days, regardless of which day you are on.

For instance, if you are reporting on a monthly basis, you can use the drop-down to select a particular month.

Click on the teal button Export Table if you want to extract the data.

Note: The users highlighted in pink have been deleted from the system, and it can be useful to see user history. More on deleted information is found below.

Sources over a Year

This next example shows the results if you click into Sources viewed over a year. It may be that a journal subscription is up for renewal so you want to see click through statistics. Once again you can change the year, and filter by type of sources. You can change how the results are sorted to type, title or total. As before, the table can be exported.

Statistics for Deleted Information

The example above has deleted users in pink because All was selected. However if you wanted to focus on deleted topics over the past month you could select Deleted as true and then sort by type, total, or title as you wish.

Although the topic has been deleted and no longer listed under the Topic tab, if you click on the title, you can access it. This might be useful if you want to resurrect the associated search(es) within the topic.

Notes: As with all email monitoring systems, your organization’s IT security may affect the accuracy of this data. For instance your organization might have additional URL filtering software.

If your organization automatically opens images in emails then it will record all instances of emails being opened. However if they are blocked, it will only record an email open when a subscriber manually selects display images.

Regardless of these IT limitations, statistics will demonstrate ‘minimal opens’ and the data provided will be useful for your reporting purposes. Please contact your IT department for more information.
