There are two different types of Topics on Vable. It depends on whether you want the topic to be available to others in your organisation, or specific to a single newsletter. An Alert Topic is created from the Newsletter page and can only be included in that one Newsletter. These Topics can not be subscribed to by end-users. This can be useful when you are including sensitive information on clients, competitors or industries.
Creating an Alert Topic with a Newsletter
Open your Newsletter (or create a Newsletter shell if necessary) and click the teal Configure Newsletter button on the left. A Manage Newsletter Topics popup will appear where you will select New Topic.
In the dialogue box, type over the existing text to create a name for the Topic title. Add a description if you wish. Click on the teal coloured checkmark and then Click Here to Add a New Vable Search.
You will be taken to the Articles page so you can create your search. A teal stripe across the top indicates that you have been brought to a new page in a workflow which is part of your current process. You also have the option to go back to the Newsletter details page.
Once you are happy with your results, click Save (in the far right of the teal stripe) and you will be returned to the Newsletter page.
In the Manage Newsletter Topics dialogue box, type over the existing text to create a name for the Vable search, and add a description if you wish. Click on the teal coloured checkmark to save your search.
You will then be asked to activate the search. Select Yes to immediately include results in your Topic or skip the activation if you plan to continue editing the search prior to including results in your Newsletter. Articles will not populate a Newsletter unless they have been activated here.
You now have the option to add a further search to the Topic. Repeat the process until you have completed building your Alert Topic.
There are a number of icons associated with each search. If you hover over the blue filter icon you can see what the search string is. Click on the toggle to activate / deactivate the search, or click on the cogwheel to edit the search, or if you click on the red trash icon, it will delete it.
You have now created your Topic. When you have finished creating and managing the Topics for your Newsletter, close the dialogue box. It will appear as an Alert Topic type in the list view of the Topics page.
Amending an Alert Topic
To amend an Alert Topic, open the related Newsletter and click the teal Configure Newsletter button. You can then delete the Topic entirely or edit individual searches (using the cogwheel icon beside the individual search).
Alternately, you can start from the Topics page, clicking on the Topic you want to edit. Click on Configure and change as required.
When editing individual searches, make all your required changes and click Save to overwrite the previous search parameters.
A Topic created from within a Newsletter is not available to be repurposed in any other Newsletters. Should you change your mind and wish to make your Alert Topic available to other Newsletters, you can convert it into a General Topic.
